Gabriele photo album
My great-grandfather, Joseph A. Gabriele, in the back yard of his home, the "big green house",
at 22 Liberty Street in Danbury.  This was taken in the early 1960's, so he was in his 90's.
Joseph and Marianna Gabriele's portrait taken for their 50th wedding anniversary, in 1943.
This is a screen capture from the home movie of Joseph A. Gabriele's 90th birthday party, in 1957.
Left: Joe at work at his own business, Gabriele and Sons Central Barber Shop on Liberty Street in Danbury,
in 1955.  In this picture he's 88 years old, he officially retired from barbering at 92, but he still came in to
give the occasional haircut until his death at 98.  He is believed to be the oldest practicing barber in U.S.
history!

Right: Joe still looking handsome in his 90's.
Also from Joe's 90th birthday party.  In the foreground are son-in-law Jim Novaco and daughter Rose Lollie playing guitars.
In the background are daughter-in-law Katherine Gabriele, son Joseph S. Gabriele, and Joe.
Left: Rose Lollie with her sister-in-law, Katherine Gabriele.  The oval portrait on the wall, of my grandfather, today hangs
in my parents' house.

Right: Katherine with her husband's niece, Rosalie LeRose.
Left: Three adults, Vincent Novaco, Elaine Dickens, and Inez Novaco, wrangle a bunch of Gabriele kids.

Right: This snapshot of my Dad on a tricycle captures the old Liberty Street, which was torn up and moved over in the 1970's.
This picture is a mix of the Gabriele and Keating families (the Keatings were neighbors.)  The man in the upper left
corner, a head taller than everyone else, wearing glasses, is Francis Lollie.  One head down and to the right is his mother,
Rose Lollie.  The man in the center with the white shirt and high belt buckle is Joseph S. Gabriele.  The woman under the
umbrella hugging a girl is Teresa Novaco, and the man all the way on the right is Nicholas Novaco.  The boy on the grass
third from the right is Louis Lollie.  Please email me if you can identify others!
Left: William Gabriele's portrait upon enlisting in World War I.

Right: Also William Gabriele, with his nephew (my Dad) and his wife Antoinette.
Francis Lollie with his uncle, Nicholas Novaco.
Left: James Novaco (seated second from left) was a fixture in Danbury's Democratic party, as president of the Hat
Finishers' Union and international vice-president of the United Hat and Cap Millinery Union.

Right: Nicholas Novaco, James's nephew by birth and brother-in-law by marriage, was a fixture in Danbury's Republican
party, serving as state representative, town Republican chairman, and deputy sheriff of Fairfield County.
Left: My grandfather, Joseph S. Gabriele, in the 1920's.  It appears there is a white cat hanging off his arm!

Right: No one in my family knows why they look like a bunch of goodfellas, but what a great picture!  My
grandfather is in the center, in the dark suit, and from his lapel, it seems it was Palm Sunday.  On the right is his
brother Anthony Gabriele (who looks like he's pulling out a gun!)  I think this was taken in front of Uncle Peter
Gabriele's store, because he owned a meat and grocery store on Liberty Street, and I think I see the words
"Liberty" and "Gabriele" stenciled on the window.  Please email me if you can identify anyone else in the picture.
Left: My grandfather tried to enlist in World War II in 1941, but at 39 years old and only 4'11" tall, the military
couldn't find anything for him to do, so they gave him an honorable discharge.

Right: My grandparents, Joseph and Katherine Gabriele, on the roof of their home at 22 Liberty Street.  They
did not take many pictures together, because she was taller than him!
Left: Vincent and Inez  Novaco.

Right: Just before he died, Vinny gave an interview to the News-Times about his tremendous service during World
War II.  The article was published days after his death.
Left: Nicholas and Teresa Novaco's portrait for their 60th wedding anniversary.

Right: Their 60th anniversary party.  The woman in the gray and pink floral dress is Connie Rajcok and the one seated in
the blue dress is Marion Rupolo, but I can't tell who the woman in the pink dress is (with her face half obscured.)
Top Left: Sally Tilbe, my grandfather's ex-wife, and mother of my half-uncle.

Bottom Left: Marion Rupolo

Right: Rosalie and Danny LeRose.
Jim Novaco (whose apron reads "Genius at Work") with his brother-in-law Anthony Gabriele.
